Will Therapy Help?
It depends. Having a great match between Therapist and Client is THE MOST essential element for effective therapy. You have to like who you are working with and not dread going to an appointment. Therapy will not be helpful if you’re simply not ready to do the work. That means, doing the life work (aka: practice assignments), applying what you’re learning, consistently and giving yourself the grace and space to see a result.
How Will Therapy Help?
Therapy will help you to improve the quality of your life, in whatever area that you want to see improved. You are the expert. You know yourself better than anyone else on this planet, and only you know what will improve your life. Therapy is a collaborative effort, meaning, that the most challenging and courageous act you take in this process, is showing up. My part is to provide you with the knowledge, skills, ability and confidence to make those small shifts in your life towards the eventual change you want to see.
What Does Success In Therapy Look Like?
From a clinical standpoint, success looks like the frequency, duration or intensity of the problem/issue you came in with wanting to address has either been resolved or reduced significantly in its impacts. However, from a non-clinical standpoint, success is defined by you. My focus with everyone I work with is to see a gradual reduction in presenting symptoms (anxiety, depression, anger, drinking etc.) over time. Small steps are far greater than large leaps…you’re less likely to fall!
How Can I Know If I’m Ready?
There’s a questionnaire that I will walk you through to help identify your level of readiness. Not everyone I work with is “100% Let’s Get After It!!!” Many are reluctant, unsure, and skeptical of the process and that’s actually part of the process! But if you’re asking this question…it’s a good indicator you just might be!
Can I see you anywhere? (Location Restrictions)
I am only licensed to practice in the state of Florida. If you are physically in, and reside in the state of Florida, then I can see you anywhere you have a strong internet connection and a safe and private location.
If you are not physically in the state at the time of our session, you may still be able be seen, however, it must be temporary (i.e. vacation, traveling etc.) and I can only see you one (1) time.
If you DO NOT reside in the state of Florida (i.e. drivers license of other proof of Florida residence) then I am unable to provide any services to you.
I am unable to provide any therapy services to anyone outside of the continental United States.
I’m Not a Christian, Is That an Issue?
It certainly is not an issue. I will not “Bible Thump” you. I believe that actions speak much louder than words, although words have their place. I firmly believe that a life without Christ is a life that is never at peace. The work that I would do with you, really helps you in the here and now…but let’s face the facts…we’re all going to leave this world…and in my line of work…people generally start to ask the BIG QUESTIONS in life when they are past the age of “What do others think about me?” and really begin to think about their life. I’d love to introduce you to Jesus, but it’s not a requirement just a strong recommendation that you don’t have to take.
What Can I Expect From Therapy?
Honest, strait forward, direct and immediate action with a smile. Generally, I don’t believe anyone should be in therapy for a long time, generally more than 12 sessions, unless there are acute issues, mishaps or setbacks. My therapy approach is short term, get in, get out and target what needs to be targeted and make small decisive steps forward.
How Do You Provide Services?
For the time being, I am only able to provide tele-therapy (Video or Phone).
What About Medications?
Medications have their place, however there is no pill or powder that will cure anything. Some have tremendous impacts on reducing symptoms, but it’s generally short term at best, unless there is a severe, persistent mental illness. Additionally, I am not a Psychiatrist and therefore cannot speak to the efficacy of any particular medication directly, nor can I give any direction or advice on what you should or should not do. I am not a qualified medical doctor. If you are wanting a medication consultation, I’d be happy to connect you.
What If I Don’t Want Therapy Anymore?
This is a common situation that many find themselves in after starting. This is for your benefit, however I cannot force you to engage. You have complete control over what you want to do and I will support you if you decide to step away from therapy. There’s a saying I heard a long time ago about World War 2 bombers closing in on Germany….the closer they got to their intended target…the more intense the flack! Sometimes, not always, but sometimes, people want to leave, just before they have a breakthrough.
